Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a frying pan
  2. Add mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal
  3. Saute for a minute. Add curry leaves and slit green chilli
  4. Add finely chopped onion, tomato, salt, turmeric,hing and chilli powder
  5. Keep sauteing in medium flame until you see onions slighty change color
  6. Sprinkle very little water and let it get cooked
  7. Once every 5 minutes give it a mix and make sure the Thokku doesn’t get stuck in the bottom the pan
  8. Within 12-15 minutes you can see onions and tomatoes reduced in size, they might have soaked up all the flavours
  9. Add sugar or jaggery at this stage
  10. Adjust salt and serve thokku as a side dish to Idli/Dosai/Paratha/Chapathi etc
