Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker
  2. Add mustard seeds, jeera & curry leaves Let them splutter
  3. Add green chilli, Onions and saute for a minute
  4. Later add the chopped veggies one by one and then sambar powder,hing too
  5. Continue sauteing for 5 minutes Rinse & wash daal thoroughly
  6. Add it to pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water
  7. Leave upto 4 whistles.Once the pressure is released, check the consistency of sambar.
  8. If its too thick, add extra half cup of water and boil for 3-4 minutes
  9. Adjust salt, garnish with coriander leaves and serve sambar with Idli,Dosai or Pongal
Other Variations :
  1. Instead of MoongDal you can substitue Toor daal as well.
  2. If you don’t have Sambar Powder powder, replace it with 1/2 tbsp Chilli Powder + 1/2 tbsp Coriander Powder. The below pic of Tiffin sambar is prepared using Toor Dal & Chilli Powder+Coriander Powder for spices
  3. When you have guests at home and would like to take this instant sambar to next level, then try this following method. It tastes so good. I prepare it mainly with Pongal – Grind 1/2 cup of Coconut with 1/4 cup of Raw Coriander seeds & 2 tbsp Sambar Powder to a smooth paste – Add this paste to vegetable + dal mixture. Pressure cook it for 4 whistles Flavorful Sambar will be ready within 20 minutes
