Homemade Sambar Powder
Sambar Powder is an important dry masala powder that is used to make Southindian staple dish Sambar. This powder can also be used to make subzis, can be added in variety rice, poriyal etc

  1. Dry roast Dried Red Chillies first. You will hear a crunchy sound when it is done. Also the color of the chillies will be mildly changed and so does the texture. It will look shrinked
  2. Then in the same pan roast coriander seeds for 3-4 minutes approximately
  3. Roast Toor Dal and Channa Dal together. Make sure the Dals turn golden brown. Only then it will grind properly in mixie
  4. Then start roasting Jeera and Black pepper together. Once you roast them for approx 3 minutes add Fenugreek seeds.Fenugreek seeds tend to brown quickly.
  5. Remove Jeera, Black Pepper and Fenugreek seeds from the pan
  6. Now transfer all the ingredients to a dry mixie jar. Add 2 tablespoon Turmeric Powder and grind them to a fine powder
  7. Use a sieve remove any coarse particles and again grind the powder for 2-3 minutes
  8. Repeat the process 3 times until we get smooth Sambar Powder
  9. This is how the final texture of the homemade Sambar Podi
  10. I made Sambar today with this powder. Used around 1.5 tablespoon of this powder. It turned out delicious
