Yesterday was ‘Thiruvadhirai’.It is an auspicious day for Lord Shiva and special prayers are held mostly at all Shiva Temples.The festival is popularly known as ‘Aarudhra Dharshanam’.There are lots of interesting mythological facts and stories on the reason for this particular festival.

  1. In a frying pan/Kadai heat 1tbsp of ghee.Roast Moong Dal,Rice until they are golden brown.
  2. Grind them coarsely like ‘rava/sooji’
  3. Melt Jaggery in 2 cups of water
  4. Boil the Jaggery water for about 4-5 minutes. Remove impurities
  5. Now add coconut and then the coarse rice,dal powder.
  6. Add 1 tbsp of ghee,cardamom powder and pressure cook it up to 4 or 6 whistles.
  7. Try cooking the rice and dal mixture only with Jaggery water to keep the flavors and taste intact.
  8. After the pressure subsidies,remove it add ghee if required and serve it.
