Puliodharai with Homemade Pulikachal Paste
This Kovil prasadham style Puliodharai is easy to prepare at home. You can prepare the Pulikachal Paste in advance and it can be stored for 2-3 weeks.

Instructions
  1. Soak Tamarind in 2 cups of warm water for 15 minutes and extract Pulp
  2. Heat 2 tablespoon Sesame Oil in a pan
  3. Add Dried Red Chilli,Peanuts (if you have) and Hing
  4. Continue sauteing for few seconds
  5. Add Tamarind Pulp,salt, turmeric and let it boil in medium flame
  6. In the meantime lets prepare the spice powder
  7. Heat little oil in a pan and roast all the ingredients mentioned under ‘Spice Powder’ section
  8. Once it is cooled down prepare powder using a mixie
  9. Now add this spice powder to the boiling tamarind water
  10. Mix everything together and let it boil for another 5-7 minutes
  11. You can see the paste becoming thick
  12. At this stage add half a tablespoon of sesame oil. Give it a mix and let it boil for another 2-3 minutes
  13. Thick Pulikachal Paste is now ready
  14. Let the paste cool down for few minutes and now add cooked rice. Make sure the rice is not too hot. Hot rice might get mashed when we try to mix
  15. Use a fork and mix everything well
  16. At this stage add Turmeric Powder, Black Pepper Powder, remaining half tablespoon oil and some fresh curry leaves (if you have). Mix everything together
  17. Adjust salt
  18. Delicious Kovil Prasadham style Puliodharai is ready 😋
