Rekha Shivakumar : A homemaker who started to cook after marriage and then became passionate about it.

Why ReshKitchen?

I first started documenting recipes as a hobby and then slowly became passionate about food. The whole process of searching for a good recipe, learning about ingredients, cooking techniques started fascinating me.

This page focuses on creating recipes with simple ingredients that are mostly available in our pantry. I believe that even with minimal ingredients you can create magic in food. The recipes are easy to follow and most of the time I add step-wise pictures for easy understanding. I hope you will love it. This is my humble attempt to share my knowledge on food, kitchen experiments, memories associated with certain recipe and so on. I hope you will love it.

Motivation:

My better Shiva is my support system, the one who insisted me to start blog and document my recipes. Even though I had only very minimal audience for so many years he kept motivating me to continue what I love. Also some of the regular readers from Instagram family who keeps motivating me, send me pics of tried recipes, send their kind words of love for non-food related posts too. And ofcourse my dearest family & friends.

Inspirations :

As every other daughter my mom is my first inspiration when it comes to cooking. Then my maternal Grandmother and mother-in-law.

There are 1000s & 1000s of food based blog, websites. I try to learn from them as much as possible. Also I follow so many talented homecooks, professionals in Instagram and in other social media sites. Each and everyone is unique in their own way. I give due credits to the recipe source here if I recreate them at my kitchen.

Favorite Food :

Amma Sapadu is always the best.. Growing up have never gotten many chances to try different cuisines both regional and international. In the past 10-13 years I was fortunate to try various new varities of food both at home and restaurants. My all time favorite Rasam+Potato fry, a good cheesy Lasagna, Burrito Bowl, Naan + Paneer Butter Masala 😋😋

Camera & Other details :

During the initial stages of blogging I had Olympus point and shoot camera. Then used my Sony Xperia Arc, Iphone 6 to take food pictures. In 2015 bought a DSLR Camera and have updated few of the old posts with new images. From 2017 most of the pics in the recipe posts are taken in Pixel 2 XL. As much as I love to explore DSLR and learn the nuances of Food Photography laziness takes over me 🙆😒

All the food pictures here are taken by me. Most of them are taken at broad day light, few at nights. I apologize for the quality of pictures if they are not clear. In the process of uploading high resolution images for each and every post. Hopefully will complete it soon 🤞

Hello kalpana you do get all our utensils here in London but they are a bit expensive. For a family of two I brought all my basic essential stuff from India. Preethi mixie with two jars (one for chutney, other big one for grinding dosa batter), 2 Pressure cooker, Dosa tawa, idli cooker, few plates, spoons, 2kadai (non-stick ones), one small pan to saute vegetables, some ladles, tumbler, coffee filter, extra cooker whistle,gasket.. Spices you get here.. So dont waste your weight allowance in spice, lentils, idli rice etc.. I brought homemade sambar podi, rasam powder though. also few packs of cup noodles since our initial accomodation was at hotel.

Hi Rekha. We are moving to London shortly. I noticed that you carried the mixie along with you. My doubt is that most of the airlines allow for only 2 check in baggags not exceeding 23kgs each. Then how did you accommodate the mixie… Carried it as a separate box or in your check in bag??

Hi Durga,
Yes i packed the jars separately and the motor part separately in our check-in suitcase itself. Also we paid extra for baggage and carried 3 extra suitcases. Its our personal choice. We preferred paying for the essentials since I wasnt sure what I will be getting here in Ireland. 😊

I do agree with all of the ideas you’ve introduced in your post.
They are very convincing and will certainly work.
Nonetheless, the posts are very short for novices. May just you please prolong them a little from subsequent time?

Thanks for the post.
